The visual evaluation of apparel textile is significant to improve fabric design so as to realize visual marketing.Based on some limitations and disadvantages of existing evaluation methods,this paper aims to research on the application of eye-tracking technology as the adjunct use of visual evaluation of apparel textile through practical examples.Based on the existing visual theory,knowledge of textile design,and the characteristics of apparel fabric,pattern fabric is selected as the research carrier for visual evaluation.Three factors are extracted from the factors that affect the visual evaluation of fabric,they are color of pattern,distribution characteristics of pattern and pattern's applying position in clothing.In each visual factor,a series of fabric and clothing faced to young people are designed for fabric visual evaluation as the watching material in eye-tracking experiment.In the first factor,watching material is compared at the same time,including fabric and clothing.In the latter two factors,watching material is presented one by one,only clothing included.After experiment design,76 university students were selected as experiment participants.To verify the experimental results and analyze the relationship and difference between eye-tracking experiment and subjective consciousness research,two researches are carried out.One is about the visual preference characteristics of college students upon apparel textile,the other is subjective preference rating of experimentmaterial under the the factor of color.Analyze eye movement data and subjective research results.For the first visual factor,this paper analyzes the attention difference between fabric and clothing,and the correlation between objective observation and subjective grading.For the other two visual factors,analysis is mainly about the characteristics of watching in time and space to evaluate the local effect of fabric in clothing.The research shows that the visual evaluation by eye-tracking technology can not only reflect the visual significance of the fabric,but also the psychological preference of the observer.Observation between fabric and clothing have a certain degree of similarity,but also have some difference.The watching on clothing is more related to psychological preference.Choosing apparel as evaluation carrier and using watching time as the same as the number of points as index is able to evaluate the overall effect.It is also useful to evaluate the local effect of apparel fabric through analyzing characteristics of watching in time and space.In addition,the evaluation method by eye-tracking technology can effectively compensate for semantic bias and lack of self cognition in subjective research.In summary,the application of eye-tracking technology is proved to be an adjunct use of visual evaluation of apparel textile.
