In this paper, the activated carbon was prepared in using the blue-coke as raw material produced in Yulin area of northern Shan xi,in which the water vapor was made as the activator and it was applied to the adsorption treatment of cyanide-containing wastewater. The technology was the effective mean to valuing modification, processing quality and utilizing Synthetically for the blue-coke resources. And It provided a new method for the comprehensive utilization of cyanide-containing wastewater. The surface morphology, specific surface area and pore structure of the activated carbon were characterized by automatic N2 adsorbent, scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR).The results showed that the optimal preparation process was that the activation temperature was 900?,the activation time was 150 min,the particle size was 6 mesh to 5 mesh(3.4 mm ~ 4 mm),the water vapor flow rate was 1kg/h,and the amount of the carbon adding is 8 g.The yield of activated carbon was 58.79%,the iodine adsorption value was 863.24 mg/g,the specific surface area was 641.84 m2/g and the pore volume was 0.37198 cm3/g under the optimum conditions. The effect of wastewater treatment of the adding amount of activated carbon, adsorption time, and adsorption temperature were explored during the adsorption experiments of Cyanide containing Wastewater. The results showed that the removal rate of total cyanide was 67.14%,the removal rate of CN-was 84.72%,the removal rate of Zn was 65.79,and the removal rate of Cu was 63.87% when the adding amount of activated carbon was the 10 g/100 mL,the adsorption time was 8 h,and the adsorption temperature was 25?.Activated carbon was modified by two kinds of modification methods: nitric acidoxidation and KOH oxidation. The surface morphology, specific surface area and pore structure of the activated carbon were characterized by automatic N2 adsorbent, scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR).The effect of activated carbon modification on the adsorption of cyanide-containing wastewater was studied by using activated carbon to adsorb the cyanide-containing wastewater. The results showed that the total cyanide removal rate of activated carbon(AC1)modified by nitric acid was 72.86% and the total cyanide removal rate of activated carbon(AC2)modified by KOH was 81.71%.Nitric acid modification can increase the mesopore and pore volume of activated carbon, and the removal rate of cyanide is mainly due to the increase of the number of surface oxygen functional groups after KOH modification.
