The performance of high-speed motorized spindles,as a core component, plays a key role in the process accuracy and efficiency of machine tools. With the trend of modern machining to high efficiency and energy saving, there are continuous requirements for improving motorized spindles.Lubrication is a key dominating the performance of the motorized spindle. As an advanced lubrication approach oil-air lubrication can not only reduce the temperature rise, and increase the speed of the motorized spindle, but also presents properties of energy saving and environmental protection, which meets the development of modern the motorized spindle. In this project,a motorized spindle of Tai'an Hana Co.,Ltd.,which is lubricated by oil-mist approach, has been updated with oil-air lubrication technology.A new spindle structure was designed, and some experiments were carried out according to the actual working conditions. With the software ANSYS Fluent, some simulations have been finished to study the behaviors of the nozzle in the oil-air lubrication system. In the meaning time, the oil distribution inside the bearing was calculated. The main work includes:(1)Design of the internal pipes of the motorized spindle for oil-air lubrication, and structure of the motorized spindle.(2)Experiments to simulate performance of bearing units of the motorized spindle with an oil-air lubrication bearing test rig, which offers the work parameters for oil-air lubrication under different speeds and pre-loads.(3)Using ANSYS Fluent, the jet profile and velocity of the hole-type nozzle and the guide-type nozzle were studied. The oil injection fluctuation of the nozzle was also investigated, which provides data for the improvement of the nozzle structure.(4)The distribution of lubricating oil inside a bearing unit was simulated by ANSYS Fluent, which provided a view of lubrication transportation from the nozzle to the bearing and the oil distribution on the surfaces of the ball and the race.
