The weak magnetic separation process was used to recover magnetite from an iron dressing plant in Shandong province. The content of red iron ore in mining ore had increased obviously and a large amount of iron ore resources was lossed in the tailings because of the follow use of existing beneficiation process in recent years, resulting in a serious waste of resources. This research aimed at iron tailings in Shangdong and carried out the iron concentrates recovery experiments.Based on the study of process mineralogy, the pre-enrichment experiments were explored and a variety of separating experiments were conducted.According to that,a suitable process was determined which could get a better indexes. The mechanisms of CM-5 which was used as the anti-flotation collector in this process were analyzed, simultaneously. The process mineralogy research showed that the total iron content in the tailing was 19.97%and the main recyclable minerals were hematite/limonite,magnetite and imaginary hematite, and the main gangue minerals were mainly chlorite,calcite,talc-serpentine and quartz.By comparing a variety of pre-enrichment schemes,a weak magnetic-strong magnetic pre-concentration flow-sheet was determined, experiments included gravity separation, magnetic separation,magnetic-gravity separation, and flocculation desliming-anti-flotation were carried out for pre-concentration concentrate after grinding, and preconcentration-grinding-flocculation desilting-anti-flotation process was determined.Under this process, the grade and recovery of iron concentrates were 65.43%and 53.34%,respectively.Monomineral flotation experiments, zeta potential measurements,IR spectrum tests and contact angle measurements showed the characteristic functional groups such as carboxyl and amidogent existed in the collector CM-5,and CM-5 was chemically adsorbed on the surface of quartz and chlorite after the action of starch and CaCl2 while molecular adsorption occured on the surface of hematite after the interaction of starch and CaCl2.The results also showed CM-5 was as effective as sodium oleate in collecting quartz, its effect of collecting chlorite was obviously better than that of sodium oleate but less than sodium oleate in collecting urpose mineral-hematit,and the low temperature resistance of CM-5 was better than that of sodium oleate.
