Corrugated plate gas-liquid separators as a kind of important separation equipment are widely used in power plant,electricity generation,petroleum engineering,chemical engineering and other fields.So far,there are no any industrial standards or specifications which can help to guide the plate installation and estimate the separator performance in industrial application.Selection,arrangement and evaluation of plates are always relying on the experience and technical accumulation of engineering technicians.The types of formulas to calculate separation efficiency are also in various.Prediction formula of one certain shape of plate can not fit for the calculation of another shape.In this paper,the streamlined plate and streamlined plate with hook are selected as the research objects.Both cold-model experiment and simulation on CFD are applied to study their performance.In the experiment,an aerosol spectrometer Promo3000 by Palas Germany is used to obtain the size and concentration of water droplets online.Separation performance at different operational conditions is also summarized.In the simulation,the commercial software Fluent 14.5 is used to simulate the gas-liquid two-phase flow at single and multiple channel spaces arrangements and other operational conditions.The gas flow filed between plates,liquid capturing positions,and efficiency curve are all studied by CFD.The results from both experiment and simulation show that droplets with the diameter less than 10~20 ?m are hardly separated in corrugated plates devices.According to these results,a mathematical model to calculate the separation efficiency for streamlined plate arrangement at 30 mm is derived.After validation by experiment and simulation,model results can describe the influence of parameters and operational conditions on separation and correctly predict the efficiency.The turning angle and outlet distance in every domain plane are two main factors influencing the performance of streamlined plate separator.Thus,an optimization plate based on the original streamlined plate is obtained and shows better separation performance.The reason why streamlined plate with hook are better than that without hook is that hook installation can also adjust the turning angle and outlet distance in some way.Therefore,the model can be as a general method to design and optimize streamlined plate.
