The coalescence plated separator,which combines gravity separation and coalescence technology,improving the oil-water separation efficiency,is widely used in the area of oil-water separation,sewage treatment and other applications,because of its simplicity,stable operation,low energy consumption,and no secondary pollution.This article introduced a two-oriented corrugated coalescence plate separator with a new type of corrugated plate structure and surface modification.The influence of feed flow rate and feed composition on separation characteristics was analyzed by experimental methods,to explore the optimum conditions of the coalescence separator and verify the efficiency of the separator.Experimental result showed that the self-designed two-oriented corrugated coalescence plate separator reached the expected separation effect with a concentration of 99% in the main phase of outlet,when it dealed with different concentrations and different feed flow rate of oil-water sewage.The corrugated plate separator designed for 1000L/h flow rate can achieve higher processing capability,indicating that the separator with special structure get higher efficiency than normal ones,which proved its ability.Three-dimensional model of separator and Euler model containing the wall adhesion was established to simulate the effect of process parameters and surface modification on separation efficiency.The highest concentration and two phases' thickness was used to evaluate the separation efficiency.The simulation result shows that the simulation results and the experimental values can be in good agreement within the error range.Feed composition and feed flow rate work together in the coalescence process.The separation efficiency is best at 1200~1600L/h.In toluene-water separation process,the average water content measured of toluene was about 0.3% to 0.4%,and the average toluene content of water was lower to about 0.03% to 0.04%.The two phases' polarity adapted respectively to the surfaces of the plate made the surface modification performed well,which had significantly higher separation efficiency compared to the dichloroethane-water system.The simulation results combining experiments concluded that small feed flow rate will increase the residence time of the mixture coalescing during the plate,and increase the chance of coalescence.The larger flow rate will increase the turbulence and vortex,promote the occurrence of collision coalescence and probability of droplets being captured by coalescence plate.Coalescence efficiency is decided by wetting coalescence mechanism and collision coalescence mechanism.Large flow rates may be used at low oil concentrations,while lower ones will be suggested at high oil concentrations.
