Handling which is included in the whole chains of logistics activities is the key factor in influencing the cost and efficiency of logistics. Material supply for a large ship is a typical material handling system. In general, the primary goal of optimizing this kind of system is to increase the efficiency and shorten the handling time followed by reducing handling cost. For this kind of optimization problems, there are two kinds of research methods, namely the research method of mathematical modeling and the research method of simulation modeling. Through visual simulation, the optimization researches on material handling route planning, material handling tools configuration and material handling sequence scheduling etc. have important practical significance.In the thesis, under the background of warships' material supply process optimization and simulation project, Flexsim visual simulation technology has been used to study material supply problems for a large ship. Flexsim based architecture of visual simulation on material supply for a large ship has been summarized. Based on the process of material supply for a large ship, the visual simulation inputs and outputs have been clearly expressed, and the process logic has been analyzed. Around the simulation architecture, specific modeling steps have been given and the key technologies which includes task sequence technology, kinematics development technology have been described. The concept and the mainstream simulation credibility evaluation process and methods have been introduced and the Flexsim based simulation credibility evaluation including simulation model credibility evaluation and simulation system credibility evaluation has been given. Combined with a specific case- visual simulation on material supply for a large ship, the simulation model and input settings including the realization of the storage rules of racks and the settings of task executors have been introduced. Simulation research on material handling time problem, material handling tools configuration problem and material handling sequence problem has been carried out. And the simulation credibility has been assessed by using fuzzy comprehensive evaluation.The results show that Flexsim can well simulate material handling process for a large ship and play an important role on optimizing the material supply process for a large ship.
