The public space in urban waterfront landscape with its special geographical location,ecological environment and social functions became an essential place for urban residents to take all kinds of leisure activities.Currently with severe situation of ageing society becomes a serious problem, the issues about how to design of waterfront recreational space of parks has already become a serious social problem which should be analyzed. By design analysis of waterfront recreational spaces of Hou Lake in Wuhan,this article explored relative conceptions, concluded design approach and combined complicated site situation and problems so as to provide an urban recreational public space for the old and meet their requirement of leisure activities.In the process of project research, the domestic and foreign research is systemized, the existing problems are summarized, and the old people's psychological characteristics and behavioral characteristics are analyzed; then, the old people's demand for outdoor activity environment as well as the corresponding design principles and methods are summarized.In the design process, the waterfront relaxation belt of Houhu Park is selected as design objective; through analysis on the location, traffic, and existing problems of the site, the main users are considered to carry out re-positioning on the site. According to the chances and challenges in the site construction, the corresponding design strategies are formulated in a targeted way, and the old people's demand is fully considered in the design of each area so that the areas which cover different functions can meet old people's various kinds of use demands. This design is made for the hope of providing new thinking for how to cope with the population aging problem in urban waterfront public space.
