As one of the most important electromagnetic and mechanical parameters, air gap of the hydro generator has a direct impact on the safe and stable operation of hydropower unit. An unbalanced magnetic pull act on the unit guide bearing which results from uneven air gap will lead to abnormal vibration, even lead to “sweeping” accident, will result in a huge economic loss finally. Therefore, it is necessary to use on- line monitoring technique to monitor the condition of the air gap. With the remote on- line monitoring model which is based on network, researching the remote monitoring and analysis system of the air gap of the hydro generator, realizing monitoring and analysis of air gap through the network, can analyze and diagnose fault without experts on hand, and improve the practicability of the system.In this paper, the method of monitoring and data analysis of air gap of hydro generator has been analyzed at first, a web-based air gap remote monitoring platform is discussed, which is implemented under the framework of Hydropower plants Optimal Maintenance Information System(HOMIS). Furthermore, the hydro generator operating condition has been analyzed according to five aspects as poles topography, tensile state of poles, air gap characteristics in the transient process, uniformity of the air gap and comprehensive analysis air gap and vibration. At the same time, remote display method s of human-computer interaction such as flash, process curve and the original data ha ve been carried on, which provide the function of remote aided analysis. Finally, the practical application of remote monitoring and analysis platform of air gap has been introduced, and analysis process of the air gap of hydro generator has been shown from multiple perspectives combined with the actual data.
