Distribution network is an important part of the power system, which undertakes the task of distributing electric energy. Strengthening the distribution network intelligence can improve its reliability and economy, as well as power quality. Communication systems provide reliable data transmission channels for the distribution network intelligence, therefore, its importance is self-evident. In recent years, the short distance wireless technologies, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, wireless ad-hoc network and so on, have become increasingly mature. When these technologies are applied in the communication system of the intelligent monitoring and control system's substation, we can overcome difficulties of the power equipments' dispersion and difficulties of laying the communication lines in the substation. At the same time, these short distance wireless technologies also extend the application of the intelligent monitoring and control system. For the above background, this paper has done the following research on the intelligent monitoring and control system based on short distance wireless communication technology for distribution network.Firstly, the paper introduces the principle of short distance wireless ad hoc networks. The key technologies of the wireless ad hoc networks are analyzed from the communication protocol, multi-hop technology and self-organization process. Among them, this paper uses the short distance wireless communication technology based on Simplici TI communication protocol as an example to analyze the wireless ad hoc network's self-organization processes.Then this paper describes three components of the intelligent monitoring and control system, which are the Monitoring main station, telecommunication networks and the monitoring sub-station. The paper also gives out functions and performances of the system and analyzes main features of the main station software platform.Furthermore, the structure and function of the intelligent monitoring and control terminal based on short distance wireless communication technology for distribution network is analyzed from both hardware and software systems. The terminal uses the dual-CPU architecture of DSP and ARM to achieve high-speed data exchange via dual-port RAM.Finally, this paper proposes a short distance wireless communication method, which can be applied in sub-station communication of the intelligent monitoring and control system for distribution network. Besides, the hardware and software of the short distance wireless communication is analyzed. The formats and contents of the custom communication data frame are described.This paper makes a brief description on function tests of the short distance wireless communication system and also describes site trial operations of the intelligent monitoring and control system for distribution network, which proves that the intelligent monitoring and control system based on short distance wireless communication technology for distribution network can be used in distribution network intelligence.
