With the accelerating progress of urbanization in C hina, the traffic congestion has become a serious problem of the city. Therefore, developing public transportation has become a trend. While many cities vigorously build the subway, it needs a new public transport with the advantages of moderate volume, energy saving and environmental protection, which is suitable for small city or big city fringes. Therefore, the modern tram emerged.Modern tram intersects with the road at the intersection and is controlled through the signal lights. How to adjust the intersection signal timing to ensure safe and modern tram priority through the intersection is the emphasis and difficult.The modern tram priority signal at the intersection is studied mainly in the following aspects. First of all, the development, technology characteristics and signal priority theory of the modern tram are reviewed. Next, considering the modern tram through intersection of discrete traffic flow, the delay formula is given and the optimization model is constructed for fixed signal timing with the objective function of minimum average delay. In addition, building an active priority benefit model based on the reference index of total delay reduction, the result of the benefit model is to decide whether to take the active priority control strategy. Finally, it is calculated with the case of the modern tram T1 line of East Lake high tech Zone in Wuhan and simulated by VISSIM to verify the model.The results of this data analysis show that: After taking the fixed signal timing optimization model and active priority control strategy, although the average vehicle delay increases, the average passenger delay is reduced obviously. Secondly, fixed signal timing should have a moderate cycle length. In addition, compared with the early green control strategy, green extension strategy is more effective.
