Study On Planning And Design Methodology Of Urban Furniture And Typology

As the speed of urbanization continuously accelerates, along with the disappearance of city’s special features, cities are the same. As an important part of the construction of open space, Urban furniture planning directly reflects the urban characteristics. How to set up urban furniture scientifically, standardized and characteristically for the orderly and unique urban public space, and more convenient and comfortable urban living environment, is the writing purpose of this article.Based on the analysis of the chaotic situation of China’s urban public environment facilities, caused by the lack of national laws and regulations, no unified local standards and multi-Sectors responsible, we summarize 118 small categories of public environment facilities list, and then select 5 major categories(53 samples) of urban furniture from them tailoring for the disadvantaged group in public space, including pedestrians, cyclists and disabled people.Furthermore, based on the research of the origin and development of urban furniture theory and practice at home and abroad, we define the brand-new concept of urban furniture. Finally, combining with the case of urban furniture set planning in Zhuhai City, we describes the planning and design methodology based on Typology as the following aspects, including the defining of classification system, the setting of simple symbol and code, the compiling of style characteristic typology atlas, as well as the using of different levels of planning.
