With the development of economy, China pays more and more attention to the education industry, especially higher education. As the major place of study and life,the indoor thermal comfort of university apartments directly affects students' learning and life.The indoor thermal environment of a college apartment in Xi'an was studied and analyzed by field testing and investigating.According to literature,the acceptable temperature range for students is is 24 ? ~ 32 ?. With the indoor relative humidity of50%, the indoor wind speed of 0.1m/s, and the indoor temperature of 26 ?,28 ?,30 ?,32 ?,the corresponding indoor PMVe value is 0.4?1.4?2.6?3.9,respectively.The measured results showed that the indoor PMVe value of top-level aparment is from 5 to 8.6,which was completely unable to meet the thermal comfort requirement of students.The indoor PMVe value of middle level apartments is 2.2~5.3,which can barely meet the thermal comfort requirements of students in the morning.The indoor PMVe of ground level apartments has a value of 0.8~3.5,which can basically meet the above mentioned thermal comfort requirements of students.The heat insulation methods in summer were summarized and analyzed.The suitable technical methods to improve indoor environment of university apartments were proposed,that is,exterior window shading,roof shading,indoor air velocity improvement,and supply air temperature decrease.The FLUENT software was chosen to simulate and analyze the indoor environment by these different technology methods.The simulation results showed that when the shading coefficient of outside window is 0.56 and shading coefficient of roof is 0.8,and the supply air temperature reduces 1 ?,the top-level dormitory indoor temperature will decrease to 31 ?,this indoor temperature falls in the acceptable temperature range of students.For middle level apartment, when indoor air velocity increases to 0.35 m/s,the indoor PMVe value decreases from 4.5 to 2.This indoor thermal comfort is equivalent to that with an air velocity of 0.1 m/s,indoor relative humidity of 50%, and indoor temperature of 30?.It can be concluded that the indoor thermal environment of university apartments can be increased by the increasing of indoor air velocity.The simulation results of these insulation technical methods can provide a reference for architects to design or improve the indoor thermal environment of university apartments.
