The status of European norms is equivalent to the standard of European countries.The design code of European Union countries will be replaced by the European standards.Due to the scientific and cultural construction of Europe and the traditional influence,the promulgation of European norms has aroused widespread concern in the world.The British standard of former colonial countries and regions of England,BS5400 is taken as the main design code for highway bridges.The norms of our country also draw lessons from foreign design codes more or less.The design of some extra large bridges also often refers to foreign standard specifications.Learning foreign advanced concepts will help broaden our horizons and improve the level of China’s bridge design.And if our country wants to occupy a place on the international market,we must understand the norms of foreign countries,especially the norms of Britain and Europe;this is the only way to go out of the country and better compete with foreign companies.This paper selects small and medium span hollow slab bridges as the research objects,compares their structure,bearing capacity limit state and the calculation of normal use limit state.This article conducted comparative analysis study on the detailed rules and regulations of European Code for design of concrete structures and concrete bridges(2005),British norms BS5400 and the design principles,imposed load,structural requirements and the calculation based on hollow slab standard drawing in the Design Specification of Highway Bridge and Culvert of our country.The main research contents and results of this article include the following aspects:1)Compare the basic design principles and requirements of Chinese,British and European bridges and the design intensity of commonly used materials and other indexes.2)Compare the differences of the regulations of vehicle load and load combination between China,England and Europe.3)Compare the calculation methods and formulas of the bending members,shear members and beam-columns of Chinese,British and European bridges.4)Compare the calculation based on hollow slab standard drawing and the structural requirements of Chinese,British and European norms.5)According to the above comparison results,choose the hollow slab standard design drawing of our country and study if the structure size,material and reinforcement detailing in the hollow slab standard drawing meet the relevant regulations in British and European norms.6)According to the requirements for checking calculation of bridge components in Chinese,British and European norms,the bending and shearing resistance of the beam section of the hollow slab standard drawing are checked using finite element software.After the comparative research,the 10 m and 20 m hollow slab standard drawings satisfy the design requirements of both British and European norms.In the application of overseas projects,we can first design them according to domestic general drawing;the intensity level of the concrete takes the corresponding intensity level in British and European norms;the steel bars take the ones of the corresponding specifications;if there is no steel bars of the corresponding diameter,we can increase the diameter of the constructional steel bars.As for rough environmental conditions,the durability design should be made according to the relevant standards and the thickness of reinforcement protective layer should be improved.
