This study focused on the application of ocean energy in Water Hydraulics field. There were decreasing fossil and freshwater resources in caustal area in our country. In order to alleviate the situation, the urgent matter is to use the renewable ocean energy to desalinate the sea water. This study was concentrated on the design and mechanical property of pintle of Radial Piston Pump, based on National Natural Science Foundation Project" Study of the key basic technologies of tidal-powered bidirectional seawater radial piston pump for RO seawater desalination".The key characteristics of pintle were lubrication properties, friction and wear properties, pressure distribution, flow field distribution, vibration characteristics, sealing characteristics and leakage features.Firstly, we lay out the stream window of the pintle and designed the structure of the whole pintle according to the working environment and performance parameters of the radial piston pump.Secondly, based on the key characteristic of pintle, we made stress analysis, modal analysis, flow pulsation analysis of the pintle and flow field analysis in pintle channels.Lastly, we designed test bed of the pintle, which lay foundation for the verification of stress distribution, water film thickness distribution and flow pulsation of the pintle.A new pintle with simple structure, low manufacturing difficulty and excellent performance was developed after finishing dynamic characteristic analysis and simulation studies. Our study provided theoretical basis for the design of the whole radial piston pump.
