As a type of wharf structure, sheet pile wharf is commonly used. Its advantage is simple structure, convenient construction and strong adaptability to complex geological conditions. But due to the low flexural capacity, sheet pile wharf is mainly used on middle and small wharf construction. In order to meet the need of deep-water development, some new types of sheet pile wharf have been invented such as T-shaped sheet pile wharf and covered sheet pile wharf. Compared with traditional rectangle section sheet pile, T-shaped sheet pile wharf has longer section perimeter, larger bending modulus, stronger bearing capacity of vertical load and horizontal load, less sedimentation and small displacement. Covered sheet pile wharf sets a row of covered piles to bear part of soil retaining load which could decrease the earth pressure of front wall. However, due to the more complicated bearing mechanism than traditional sheet pile wharf, there is still lack of clear understanding for mechanical characteristic and destroys mode of T-shaped sheet pile wharf and covered sheet pile wharf. Accounting to the above problems, this paper conduct a study on bearing character and stability analysis of T-shaped sheet pile wharf and covered sheet pile wharf by finite element numerical simulation method, then give a more reasonable structure type by comparing the analysis result of the two structures. On this basis give some advice on optimization design of structure. The main contents are as follow:1.Set up the FEM analysis model of covered sheet pile wharf, according to the stability analysis step of strength reduction method and existing loading coefficient method, analyze the stability of covered sheet pile wharf, then give the instability failure mode and the calculation method for stability safety factor of the structure. On this basis, analyze covered effect and stability of covered sheet pile wharf with different displacement between front wall and covered pile.2.Set up the FEM analysis model of T-shaped sheet pile wharf, analyze the bearing character and stability of the structure by strength reduction method and existing loading coefficient method, study the instability failure mode of T-shaped sheet pile wharf, then give the calculation method for stability safety factor according to the criterion of instability. In view of the likeness between T-shaped sheet pile wharf and covered sheet pile wharf, contrast the difference of bearing character and stability of the two structures.3.Set up the FEM analysis model of rectangle section sheet pile wharf, analyze the transformation and stability of rectangle section sheet pile wharf and T-shaped sheet pile wharf, then give the more reasonable type of structure.4.Analyze the stability of T-shaped sheet pile wharf with different size by stability analysis method which is set up in this paper, then give the advice on optimization design of the structure.5.According to the limit equilibrium theory and strength reduction principle, establish the simplified calculation method of anti-overturning stability of T-shaped sheet pile wharf, give the determination method of stability safety factor, then prove the rationality of the simplified method by comparing with the results calculated by FEM.
