In recent decades, with the development of society and economy, environmental problems have become increasingly prominent, the sustainable development has become the focus of the current. Tianjin is the coastal city in the north of China, with the urban spatial expansion, the resource demand growth and the ecological pressure increase. In order to accelerate the construction of beautiful Tianjin, In this paper, combined with the situation of Tianjin, we improve ecological footprint model through the localization, national hectare, increasing pollutants and water resources account, utilization of the wetland and marine resources and so on. Then, according to the resources production and consumption of Tianjin from 1990 to 2012, calculation and analysis the ecological environment and predicting the sustainable development in the future of Tianjin, put forward the countermeasure and suggestion, based on land weaves with overall planning.During the study period, with the urban spatial expansion, construction land occupies biologically productive areas, the population growth rapidly, fossil energy consumption growth which lead to the increasing of resource consumption and pollutant emissions, the total ecological footprint increase, ecological capacity decrease, ecological deficit increase, the ecological pressure increase, ecological conditions deteriorate and the development become less sustainable. Specific performance:(1) From 1990 to 2012, the ecological footprint per capita increased by 432%, ecological capacity decreased of 24%, ecological deficit increased by 630%. In the recent ten years, the ecological footprint and ecological deficit increased rapidly are mainly because of the sustained growth in consumption of fossil energy.(2) From 1990 to 2012, the ecological footprint of per million yuan GDP decreased of 79.1%. Among them, the largest decline happened from 1990 to 1998, showing the continuously improve of land productivity and resource use efficiency in Tianjin. Economic development depends less on the use of ecological resources and more on science and technology.(3) From 1990 to 2012, the ecological pressure index growed fluctuation, reaching to 23.13 in 2012, which shows that the area is always in the ecological insecurity status, and the situation is getting worse year by year.(4) From 1990 to 2012, ecological footprint diversity index decreased and the stability of ecosystem was getting worse. Because the ecological footprint growth amount was far higher than the diversity index decreases amount, development capacity index of the ecological economy system growed slowly. The prediction of ecological environment of Tianjincity in 2020 shows that, the ecological pressure of Tianjin will increase. The key to realize the sustainable development, is to control the growth of population, reduce the use of fossil energy, and the CO2 emission. We should clamp down on polluters, reduce atmospheric pollutants, sewage and so on. At the same time, protect and increase biologically productive areas, improve the productivity of land.
