| Inspired by the theory of site experience from John.O.Simonds, this article, basing on the landscape studies field, explores the method on site perception and interpretation. Overall and accurate site investigation is an important part of landscape planning and design, it is also the basis of planning and design. A successful site perception and interpretation can guarantee the quality of design scheme. The aim of site interpretation is to provide better service for the design, even if there’ll be thousands of target for one project, the essence of landscape design in the site is to keep a balance between human, human and society, human and natural. Each site contains lots of information need to be unearthed by the designer, however, some designers usually ignore the importance of site interpretation, and don’t pursue the thoroughly site investigation, as result, the project design scheme usually lacks of emotions, and can’t reflect the characteristics of site. From this point of view, site interpretation is the best way for designer to acknowledge and understand the site, it is also the important way to guarantee the design scheme to be tally with the local circumstances, and to protect the scenery resources and cultural and historical heritage within the site, it and can effectively avoid the homogenization of landscape design.Basing on the literature review and case studies, this article can be divided into three progressive parts. In the first part, it analyses the characteristics of the site context includes the explicit information and implicit information and provides the reason for the necessity of site interpretation from the influence aspect. Second part focus on the site experience and site investigations, which combine different cultural perspectives between East and West countries, discusses how to interpret site and the way of site interpretation; according to the physical environment of the site and user’s behaviors, the landscape design framework of interpretation can be organized. Finally, through the explicit information and implicit information on site experience and investigations, many case studies will be present as the evidence to explore the relationship between the site interpretations for design program and demonstrate the applicability and importance of site interpretation. |
