In this paper, the causes and mechanisms of cold arid regions asphalt concrete pavement were analyzed, and the optimal design and performance testing of the asphalt concrete pavement layer of asphalt mixture in cold regions were carried out. Considering the climatic features, the widely used asphalt mixture AC 13 was chosen as the research object, and the determining method for the dosage of asphalt in Marshall Method was optimized.Asphalt aging is more serious in arid cold areas for the intense ultraviolet. In this paper, the effect of short-term aging and long-term aging on asphalt mix was considered to obtained the relationship between the influence of different aging state and the low-temperature performance of asphalt mixture. The results show that long-term aging has great effect on low-temperature crack resistance of asphalt mixture. The decay rate of the strain energy density could be taken as the evaluation index of low-temperature crack resistance of asphalt mixtures after aging.During the construction of roads in cold regions, the demand for temperature of modified hot mix asphalt is generally higher. The decreasing workability of asphalt mixture in a low-temperature environment may lead to early pavement cracking. The asphalt mixture with PRLT enables the construction temperature reduced to about 130 ?,and increases the temperature stability, low-temperature cracking resistance and water stability dramatically. It is an effective measure to solve the problem in the construction of roads with hot mix asphalt in cold regions.
