The development of the modern science and technology,and the increasing of the usage requirements of the mechanical product which is related to overrunning clutches,is making the comprehensive performance requirements of the overrunning clutch more and more stringent.The studies on the overrunning clutch urgently need a theoretical progress.The ring type overrunning clutch is a new kind of overrunning clutch which is developed in this context.It has high efficiency,sensitive reaction,strong bearing capacity and low wearing sensitivity.In this paper,the development of the new expanding-ring type overrunning clutch is an important complement and development of this kind of overrunning clutch.In order to promote the development and improvement of the ring type overrunning clutch,this paper classified and introduced the common ring type overrunning clutches,based on the analysis and summary of previous achievements of the self-locking mechanism.And the self-locking model of this kind of overrunning clutch was established,combining with the basic principle of the mechanical self-locking.The theoretical derivation shows that the self-locking mechanism of the ring type overrunning clutch is that self-locking depth should be less than self-locking threshold.What's more,this paper gave a graphic method and computer programming method with an example.This paper analyzed the reasonable ring number of the expanding-ring type overrunning clutch and proposed a new structure with a roller as the control section combined with the advantages and disadvantages of previous control section.And then the new expanding ring type overrunning clutch general structure was proposed;the working process and studied the self-locking and overrunning conditions was researched with an example computer program solution;the self-locking condition's sensitivity of the roller manufacturing error and wear was discussed,comparing with the roller type overrunning clutch under the same condition of the size of the roller,outer ring and the core shaft,the theoretical analysis shows that the expanding-ring type overrunning clutch has a better performance than the roller type overrunning clutch.This paper analyzed the bearing capacity of the expanding-ring type overrunning clutch,comparing the roller contact stress,which was been the reference object under the definite premise,with the roller type overrunning clutch.The theoretical analysis showsthat the expanding-ring type overrunning clutch has an equal bearing capacity to the roller type overrunning clutch with 5 rollers under the same condition of size and some other conditions.An expanding-ring type overrunning clutch was designed according to the operating requirements,and the 2D drawing and 3D modeling was completed.The theoretical model was verified with a simulation analysis based on ADAMS.The prototype of the expanding-ring type overrunning clutch was produced,and then the test was accomplished,including the principle of verification tests,the sensitivity test of the roller manufacturing error and wear.Some improvement directions of the expanding-ring type overrunning clutch was put forward,based on the experimental results.
