Since the establishment of rock and soil mechanics, slope stability problems have been widely concerned by academic community and engineering field. Over a long ti me, there is only one choice that using a certain value to describe the degree of slop e stability for people. But in the 1850s, with the birth of reliability theory, a new met hod that makes up the shortcomings of deterministic analysis methods has came to the attention of researchers. On the foundation of probability theory, uncertainty of various influencing factors in engineering practice can be quantified so that people can make f urther researches.The main contents of the paper are constituted by two parts:Part 1, According t o the characteristics of the slope engineering, Proposing an improved slope reliability analysis program based on the optimizing for the original theories and methods; Part2, Analysising the influence of the variation coefficients 8^ and 8C to the probable relia bility P_s. Through the sensitivity analysis,we can find the changing rule of P_s which i s very useful in slope design.In part 1, the value range of the partial physical and mechanics parameters'vari ation coefficientthis has been concluded. Simultaneously, using RMS and strength redu ction finite element method to get limit state function of solpe and then calculating th e reliability probability by it;In part 2, the functional relation between the reliability p robability and the coefficients of variation have been established through matlab. Sensi tivity analysis can be simple and convenient based on it. Through observation,some la ws have been found and the ratio of region A in which P_s?99.65% to the entire re gion has been used as a indicator to evaluate whole sensitivity of P_s to ?_? and ?_c an d then applied the indicator to the analysis of a practical slope engineering case, the calculation result of the indicator can reflect the quality of slope design on reliability.
