Head injury was one of the most common injuries in traffic accidents. Accident statistics showed that the mortality caused by head injury was the highest, accounting for 68% of all, which made head injury to become the most important reason resulting in death and disability.In frontal crash test,dummies were used to evaluate the performance of vehicle safety and develop occupant restraint system,replacing the occupants,by automobile safety development researchers and experimenters. Nowdays,Hybrid III 50 th dummy was used in frontal crash test of statute and New Car Assessment Program worldwide.Study showed that the head of Hybrid III 50 thdummy and American 50 th male head were highly consistent in contour and dimeson. Because of the differences between statistical data of Chinese head and American head parameters. Thus, Hybrid III 50 thdummy may not reflect the injury of Chinese 50 th male head accurately.At present, domestic researches mainly focused on overall response of Chinese dummy, without considering about specific parts. Moreover, current studies did not explore the rationality of design method in Chinese dummy parts and the effect of design parameters on the performance in crash test. In order to make up the above shortcomings, the main content of this dissertation are shown as follows:1.Design methods of Chinese 50 thdummy head were discussed and two kind of geometric scaling methods were summarized. The effects of scaling methods in the geometrical differences between Chinese 50 thdummy head model and Chinese average male head were discussed, by comparing the contour lines of dummy head in the sagittal plane and coronal plane extracted with the methods.2.Head calibration and neck calibration simulation finite element model were built by LS-DYNA to explore the influence of difference between Chinese 50 th dummy head and Hybrid III 50 thdummy head on the dynamic response in corresponding calibrations.3.The influences of centroid parameters on the dynamic response of Chinese 50 th dummy head were studied. And the responses were compared with those of Hybrid III50 th head.4.In order to improve the accuracy of existing dummy components centroid measuring device, a new dummy components centroid measuring device was designedand manufactured based on the method of three-dimensional center of gravity plate of three pivot points. And the accuracy of the device was verified.The results suggested that Non-uniform scaling method was more suitable for the development of Chinese 50 th dummy head, because that the deviation between the contours in sagittal and coronal planes of the model obtained by the method and the corresponding Chinese human head geometry was small. The differences between Chinese 50 th dummy head and Hybrid III 50 th dummy head caused the different dynamic response of head and neck. Thus, higher peak acceleration should be needed for Chinese dummy head in head calibration. The effect of the centroid parameters on the peak acceleration for Chinese 50 thdummy head was more obvious than that of Hybrid III 50 th dummy head. Current requirements of the centroid of Hybrid III 50 th dummy head are not applicable to the Chinese 50 thdummy head, and higher requirements should be formulated for the manufacture of Chinese dummy head. The accuracy of new dummy components centroid measuring device is better than the existing measuring device, and has the value of popularization.
