Application Of Symbol Aesthetic In Urban Landscape Design

Urban landscape is one of the "visual art", whose development is closely linked with art movements. Due to the technical intervention, contemporary urban landscape design become more inclined to the "technical decision" theory. People did not seem to care about the art of landscape design problem, ugly, cold, lifeless urban landscape exist in everywhere. We should not list and stuffing the urban landscape language with a curious attitude, on the contrary, we need a clear logic to guide urban landscape design work. Otherwise, we will face the lack of our own natural language of the urban landscape.Semiotics is a dsciplinary theory of symbol, which is generated by Western structure ideas. From the perspective of semiotics, everything in the world can be seen as a symbol, which has a certain structure and specific meaning.Through the interconnected elements, urban landscape form a system and express specific information, which can be researched as a huge symbol.In this paper, we take the Susan Langer and Cassirer’s symbol aesthetics as research subjects. By discussing the emotional imagery and artistic symbol of life forms in the the field of urban landscape, we will grasp a new method symbol in the urban landscape design. In addition, Lange’s theory of art symbol provide a new theoretica platform for the discussion of artistic essence theory, especially in the visual arts, it has a more realistic sense. In this paper, we expect to be inspired in the level of city landscape design methodology by deeply analyzing the symbol aesthetics, resolving the problem of the urban landscape of contemporary art collective "aphasia" to some extent.The innovation of this paper is:take the esthetics as the theoretical basis, derived a new method of urban landscape design about "Symbol Aesthetics" by combining theory and practice. Specifically, there’re three main processes:abstract concept about urban (landscape) image; transformation about Art (symbol) City (Landscape Design) concept; design in the city (Landscape) symbol.
