The application of intelligent alarm and auxiliary analysis system is important to improve the ability of the operator to deal with faults and the stability of power grid. This paper researched on the relationship between alarm information and fault in the substation. The faults and abnormal conditions of substation were divided into two categories: the first failure could not cause substation main connection topology changes; the second failure would be. To improve the expert system reasoning strategy of intelligent alarm and auxiliary analysis system, the forward reasoning mechanism was used for the first faults and the reverse reasoning mechanism for the second faults. The substation fault reasoning logic and knowledge structure design was completed.Using the method of information processing and fault reasoning, t he design of the information preprocessing step, the reasoning analysis of expert system and the alarm system interface were completed. Using SQLite database software to build the database of the intelligent alarm system; using C language to compile intelligent alarm system program and a database interface program; completed the development of substation intelligent alarm system interface in the Qt graphical user interface application development framework.Established the typical 220 kV substation simulation model based on the PSCAD simulation software, and obtained alarm information under several fault conditions. Under the faults conditions, the intelligent alarm and auxiliary analysis system can get the correct diagnosis results and suggestions. The usability of the system was basically verified.
