Though architectures in our country have suffered bodi es of natural and man-made disasters, we still can take good advantage of the advanced techn ology to record all aspects of architectures.Recently, the government vigorously not only promotes and develops the outstanding traditional culture in our country, but ask people to constantly improve the consciousness of the cultural relic's protection. Ancient buildings are of great historic significance, and also the reflection of the specific history and traditional handicraft. Hence, the protection of ancient architecture plays an important role in the traditional cultural heritage. For the project of ancient architecture protection, it is going to protect and restore the original style, sustain the life cycle, and preserve information of history and construction as well. In this way, it is convenient to manage the information. Since the eighteenth congress, the country requires to enhance the level of cultural relic's protection. Therefore, the way of ancient architecture protection has been transformed from traditional into informational. The application of ancient architecture's basic information model is a fresh idea and new tendency. The basic information model of ancient architecture can carry and record the historical and constructional information of the ancient architecture, and it has the following roles:In the first place, the vital part of ancient architecture protection is the restoration, while the survey and mapping of the ancient architecture are used to offer basic data to the restoration. It is realizing the whole life cyclemanagement from the recording of ancient architecture's present information to the architectural heritage, and the sharing of information and establishment of data archive.
