Sichuan Yibin Hengjiang Town Space Form Research

The so-called Famous Historic and Cultural Town which is Yibin Hengjiang Ancient Town is a rare cultural-relics in China. The construction style and complete organizational structure represents the historical tradition and local culture of such ancient town. The spatial pattern of ancient town not only consists of overall layout, streets system, construction, landscape and other elements, but also contains a deeper level and a wider range of intangible cultural heritage. Previous research of the ancient town is limited to the town’s location, layout and construction. Such research is lack of deep analysis of ancient towns’internal factor in spatial pattern and in-depth analysis of the spatial structure. Therefore, based on the traditional research methods of humanity and history, a new space syntax research method is tentatively used in this paper. A description of the spatial pattern of Hengjiang Ancient Town in unconventional perspective combined with the mathematical model and analysis based on such data is shown in this paper. Firstly, a brief description of basic theory is made in this paper. Such chapter expounds the research object of this paper, significance, methods and related research situation. And a brief introduction to the definition of related concepts and the theory of spatial syntax is shown in such paper. Then in the core part of this paper, a research is divided into three parts in three different scale of ancient town’s spatial pattern. The first part is the stage of traditional research, which mainly makes a brief summery of the three different spatial forms, analyses its influencing factors and basic characteristics. The second part is the stage of quantitative analysis. By using the theory of space syntax, three different scales of town space form are analyzed with the help of Depthmap software. Mainly an analysis of integration, average depth and comprehensible degree is made. And through such analysis we find out its internal structure characteristics, natural evolution rules and the existing problems. The third part is the stage of conservation and development. Based on the first two stages’research results, the protection and renovation of old town space form measures are put forward.Above all, the Hengjiang Ancient Town is mainly composed of whole space, streets space and architectural space of three different scales of spatial form. Through the traditional research and quantitative analysis, and to fully understand the Hengjiang Ancient Town’s spatial morphology, the spatial form is put forward to protect and develop such old town.
