Since the beginning of 21 st Century, automobiles have become mass consumer products. In order to meet the needs of different levels of people's diversity, many automobile manufacturers have tried to achieve the upgrading of products through continuous improvement technology in recent years. Auto parts, as important part of the automobile industry chain, determine the car's sales price, the impact of the auto industry's massive reshuffle and mergers and acquisitions. The standardization production of automobile parts is the development trend of the whole industry.The standard parts are good means to control the cost of the automobile manufacturing and product upgrading. At present, there are many kinds of products, the traditional design methods need to be designed for each of the lamps. Comparatively speaking, this causes a waste of time,affects designing cycle, and goes adverse to the rate of upgrades of products.In the first half of the paper, the author summarizes the application method of modular design with the literature analysis method, through the research of the modular theory of the lamp design, combining with the data analysis. She/he also puts forward the modular standard theories, which greatly reduces the product design cycle and manufacturing cost, and improves the level of design quality. Through one of the modules in the circular fog lamp reflector, for example, the modular functions are decomposed into convertible independent unit. According to the needs of users re adjustment and combination modules, you can easily put forward meet the different demands of the users, with different functions of the new modular product series,thereby shortening the product design cycle, saving the molding time, control the production cost.In the second part of this thesis, with the way of practice-investigation, the author collects the data of the existing 165 species within one year on the market listed on the new models equipped with a circular fog lamp model of reflector diameter size, analyzes and summarizes the data. The author also combines with the standardized diameter interval size given by human visual discrimination parameters within a certain range, and does the inspection and analysis of the standard's conclusion, thus comes to the completion of the standardization of circular fog lamp reflector, resulting in a substantial reduction in current mirror type, which is conducive to the headlight design and production.Modular design method simplifies the process of re-designing. In the use of components,modular products all have standard convention, ensuring that the production enterprises can complete product development and assembly in the production process. This not only achieves to control the uncertainty factors during the production process, but also helps reduce the risk andcost of production. Product standardization is the strong support to the improvement of product recycling rate, assisting to its updated iteration. The series products, after continuous testing and improvement, all use the reliability of comprehensive verification from product design,manufacturing to product assembly. The characteristics of the "standardization and generalization" for modular design, reduce the operating costs of enterprises, improve the response rate of the product to the market, so that make the enterprises continue to maintain the leading position in the market competition. In the trend of globalization of automobile industry,the establishment and application of modular design theory and technology will undoubtedly inject new vitality into the traditional automotive industry.
