In the long-term adaption to the local natural, building and social environment,various climate-adaption strategies are formed in Huizhou traditional vernacular dwelling, the most widespread which is natural ventilation by means of atrium and opening. Unfortunately,with the advancement of the new rural construction,it is not uncommon that a surge in the rural building energy consumption,as well as featureless modern dwellings nowadays.Accordingly,it is imperative to study the natural ventilation strategies in traditional house not only for the protection and inheritance,but also for the design of modern dwellings.It is proposed and tested that building natural ventilation network based on CONTAM in the paper which takes single and multizone buildings as object of study.More specifically, the building natural ventilation effect is analyzed by the following approaches.Architectural plane layout is divided by areas whose states are showed by nodes,and then is totally displayed by the nodes. The forms, positions and sizes of ventilation openings is showed by air flow path,and the inlet and outlet air quantity in each nodes through each paths is showed by differential pressure and ventilation quantity.The rule and mechanism of the summer natural ventilation in a traditional vernacular dwellings with a atrium is studied by means of CONTAM that analyzes the natural ventilation network in Huizhou traditional vernacular dwelling,along with CFD that makes a supplementary analysis of airflow distribution in the area of atrium in the paper.It is showed that,on the effect of thermal pressure,outdoor air infiltrates into indoor through front and back doors and cracks on external walls of rooms,whereas indoor air flow outside through the atrium during the night.In a word,the ventilation rate in rooms is 0.9 times/h that is smaller than that in atrium. There is few obvious draft sensation on account of a low air velocity in atrium zone on the effect of thermal pressure.Correspondingly,on the effect of wind pressure,the ventilation quantity through the opening of atrium that can be regarded as air inlet and outlet at the same time is more than that through the front and back door.In a word,the ventilation rate in rooms is 2 times/h,and the ventilation rate in the atrium during the night is 30 times/h less than that during the day. On the contrary,there is an obvious cross ventilation in hall in the daytime while there are both inlet and outlet air in the opening of atrium in thenight on the effect of wind pressure.Under the interaction of thermal and wind pressure,the later one plays a dominant role,in which the two pressures reciprocally weaken in atrium while boost each other in rooms during the day.When in night,results show the opposite responseLastly,CONTAM is used in analysis of transient airflow,which can evaluate the natural ventilation potential for the whole year. The results shows that the natural ventilation potential of Huizhou traditional vernacular dwelling in interim seasons is greater than that in summer, meanwhile, the windproof efficiency of the atrium is0.422.
