China has a wide range of traditional residential buildings, every pattern of which is to some extent unique and different from each other. China's traditional dwellings are a very important part of Chinese rich cultural heritage, which are the products of long term interaction, coordination and adaption of people's effort and natural environment. Contrast to today's modern architectures, traditional architectures with diverse, flexible forms, more importantly, are in line with the demand for energy saving in nowadays. Study of traditional buildings can not only protect and inherit the traditional local culture, but also can explore techniques and experience in the inherent traditional houses, further more, combining which with modern science and technology in order to develop China' residential more practically. In China, an important feature of traditional buildings is a reasonable use of natural ventilation.A detailed investigation into the evolution of the Wang house in Muhuguan Town, Shangzhou District, south of Shaanxi Province is carried on by inerview and observation. The evolution backgroud and features of the local dwellings are summarized on the base of dictation, investigation and verification. A two-story dwelling is selected as the research object, investigation and study is carried out first, the basic information of the dwelling has been got, and then field test is been done to record the wind velocity, humidity and temperature indoor by hour, and finally the method of nature ventilation of the new designed dwelling is given by the research from the direction of the layout of the village and the single dwelling. The indoor wind field of the new designed dwelling is been simulated on the base of the accurate model, and which is superior is judged by the quantitative analysis of the indoor wind field of both the traditional and the new designed dwellings.Simulating the program after changes, it is found that smooth airflow, clear airflow path, wide-coverage, reducing the indoor eddy in the new residential ventilation than traditional houses. The main room in new residential forms altitude between air inlet and outlet, so hot air can be achieved, the flow into the layer of main room was overstating in the court office and the wind speed can be increased, outflow with the second layer of indoor air. The depth of the new residential areas is bigger than the traditional ones, although increasing the use of space, reducing the quality of indoor air and wind speed instead.
