The Application Of GIS In Expressway Network Evaluation

Expressway network has been playing a very important role in modern transportation network. Through more than 30 years’development, the scale of our country’s expressway extends gradually and its structure is becoming more reasonably. How to evaluate the expressway in a scientific and reasonable way and feedback the results timely to the road traffic planning personnel in order to support the next step of traffic planning is significant to traffic planning work. As abstraction of geographical spatial entity, expressway network has all the characteristics of spatial data. While it is the best way to collect, store, manage, analyze and output geographic information by GIS.Firstly, this paper makes a theoretical research of the expressway network evaluation from four parts, including technical evaluation, economical benefit evaluation, environmental impact assessment and social impact assessment Based on the evaluation index of the general road network and according to the characteristics of the expressway, we select the evaluation index which is suitable for expressway network with scientific, comparable, independent and combining quantitative and qualitative principles. Dimensional normalization method of different types of evaluation index and some comprehensive evaluation method are also brought up in this paper. Next, this paper study the application of GIS in the expressway network database of organization and management, index calculation of expressway network evaluation and visualization of expressway network evaluation result. Finally, this paper choose the expressway network of Jiangsu province as the experimental data, design and build spatial and attribute database of expressway network, select suitable programing environment and programing tools, realize the software module of expressway network evaluation and visualization of evaluation result by Secondary development of GIS technology.This paper aim at studying the advantage of GIS technology in expressway network evaluation and promote the multi-disciplinary integration. It proves that GIS technology put good effect on traffic planning.
