The Geographic Information System (GIS) is a spatial information system, which can capture, store, manage, analyze and display the data about space. Recently, with the rapid development of computer technology and the rising of users'demand, GIS is widely applied in various fields, and greatly promotes the efficiency of management of information.Transportation is very important to the national economy, whose network structure and transportation power can affect the human life directly. GIS technology can deal with all kinds of traffic information in an effective way, and the information and the analytical result can be output by visible expression. The paper aims to develop a highway traffic network information processing system based on GIS, which integrates the functions of capturing, storing and analyzing of traffic information.The thesis does some research on the traffic network database based on the principle and method of GIS. After analyzing the content and feature of traffic network information, the data can be classed and the management method of data is selected for the system according to the principle and method of GIS technology. A traffic network database can be built by selecting an appropriated data model. There are two main traffic network processing technology in the paper, it is traffic network data processing and the shortest path algorithm. A traffic network includes a node set and an arc set,which can be derived by the line. Before the line is converted to network, data processing must be done. Data processing includes the checking, conversion of data format and the auto-building of network topological structure. The shortest path algorithm is the basic algorithm of network analyze, to improve the efficiency of the algorithm is important to the large-scale network. The dynamic query based on travel time has practical value. ComGIS is the developing trend of GIS soft technology, it is demonstrated that some function of the traffic network procssing system based on VC++ and MO.
