With the development of city scale and the rapid growth of motor vehicle quantity, the vehicle emissions have greatly jeopardized the quality of social lives and the sustainable development of the environment, which has raised great public concern and become one of the most important research subjects in our country. As a result, it is extremely imperative to find ways to prevent and deal with the vehicle emissions. Therefore, within the domain of traffic engineering, it is of great importance to conduct research on factors that affect the vehicle emissions, models of the vehicle emissions and measures to improve the traffic environment. It has been proved to be economic and effective to reduce the emissions through the optimization of highway alignment design. Meanwhile, modeling the vehicle emissions is fundamental to the construction of environment-friendly cities. This paper focuses on how the highway alignment influences the on- highway traffic emissions, in order to fit models of on- highway vehicle emissions based on the highway alignment, and to further control and reduce vehicle emissions by considering the linear combination of highway space alignment and the design of highway, reaching the goal of green traffic, sustainable development and low carbon policy. In order to reach the goal, quantification model and simulation platform are used for systematic study in this paper. After analyzing the trend of development of research concerning vehicle emissions both nationally and internationally, this paper chose the latest and the most effective model- MOVES to calculate the vehicle emissions. By combining it with traffic simulation model based on VISSIM, this paper established the simulation method to calculate the vehicle emissions at the intersection. This paper also fit the simulation model of vehicle emission at the intersection based on a great number of simulation data and analyzed several typical factors affecting emission value. Then, this paper put forward the solution of the modeling of vehicle missions based on the highway alignment. By combining this solution and the simulation model of the vehicle emissions at the intersection, this paper developed the simulation modeling platform of vehicle emissions based on the highway alignment. This platform can provide theoretical basis for the analysis of rules of the vehicle emission and the reduction of traffic emissions, and thus to be used for highway design or analysis software. Besides, it can also help researchers quantify and evaluate the vehicle emissions level while considering the highway capacity during highway alignment design or rebuilding process. Furthermore, it may also provide the measures of quantifying emissions level and evaluating environmental impact, for further control and evaluation of highway construction and comprehensive profit evaluation of highways, and provide reference for the green and sustainable construction of highway in the future.
