As one of the main types of Chinese classical garden,temple garden is the site of religion fete and public recreation in ancient,and compared with the royal garden or private garden which is more open and public;it has the characteristic with flexibly site,richness in landscape,attractive conception and remarkable cultural history under the influence of Confucianism,Taoism,and Buddhism,it exerts temporal expression and rationality with the impact on social development and natural environment of region.An Yang has long history,from the capital of the Shang dynasty to the county of Cao-Wei,Last-Zhao,Ran-Wei,Early-Yan,East-West,North-Qi period,and the Zhang-De mansion which is the economic center.Because the impact of Tai-hang Mountains,Yellow River,Zhang-shui River and Huan River on geographical characteristics,An Yang has ascendant nature environment.As one of the cradles of Yellow River basin and Chinese Civilization,it also has profound cultural heritage.Since the Eastern-han dynasty and Buddhism spread to Henan province,temple garden in An Yang has different scale,form and methods of construction,and also be widely distributed,as on the account of Favorable in geographical location,abundant in cultural landscape as well as political and economic status.There is no systematic research on the temple garden of An Yang somehow,it’s necessary to study it comprehensive,as with to replenish the endemic temple garden.Investigating and reorganizing the background of landscape design,site and layout,architectural features,arrangement of plants,exertion of waterscape,space and artistic conception,etc on temple garden in An Yang,which based on consulting literature and investigation,the paper was summarized the features of temple garden in An Yang,as with the status on the temple garden system in Henan province,the article’s content lies on the following aspects:(1)To illustrating the meaning and content of the research on temple garden,I elucidate the concepts on temple and temple garden,as well as the temple garden literature.(2)The history of development and transition on temple garden in An Yang can be divided into four categories: the period of embryo,growing,flourish,and maturation,which was based upon referring the ancient books and illustrating in the field.(3)To summarizing the character of landscape design on temple garden in An Yang,I explore thesite and environment,architecture and layout,plants and plantation,waterscape,as with the space and artistic conception.(4)To concluding the important status about temple garden in An Yang,I compared it with other temple garden in Henan district.(5)According to all above research,analyze the actuality of temple garden in An Yang,and offer a proposal of protection and utilization.
