The wheel is a center cylindrical metal parts which is in a car tire for supporting a tire and fixing the tire rim, is loaded with the tire by the car. When the car is moving, interaction force by the wheel contact with the ground and drive the vehicle by the torque is transmitted to the hub. So, the strength of the hub is an important factor in vehicle safety. This topic is mainly according to the performance and design sizes of a certain type of steel wheels to analysis, and gets the optimal size of the wheels through structural optimization.This main research content of this article is as follows:(1) According to the shape of the hub, the wheel sizes are expressed in the form of parameters as much as possible and then establishes parametric model of the hub. So the optimization of the design can be carried out smoothly.(2) The research is achieved by the finite element method in ANSYS. When meshing the hub, the part of the rim and spoke is divided to mesh, and the concentrated areas of stress needs to optimize grid. The force of the car wheel is analyzed according to the bending fatigue test of car wheels, and the results are consistent with the actual situation.(3) In the hub of process structure optimization, the total weight of the wheel is the objective function, the thickness of the rim and spoke are the design variables, and the maximum stress of wheel is a state variable. The hub is optimized in the first-order through the ANSYS software.(4) To finite element analysis result as the basis, to optimize the topology of automobile wheel hub, set the amount of material removal, respectively, 30%, 40%, 50%, iteratively run 38 times calculation convergence, hub topology optimization unit map and the topological map, clearly reflects the hub material distribution and location, to provide a reference for automobile wheel hub design schemes.(5) The last part is the bending of composite tensile and compression fatigue life estimation, based on the fatigue life of bending fatigue and tension compression fatigue of the independent effect, estimate the bending of composite tensile and compression fatigue life. In the end the estimation is verified through the fatigue test.The research of car wheel is studied combining with finite element method, bending fatigue test, optimization theory and fatigue principle analysis. The study for the design and performance of car wheels has practical significance and reference.
