Slurry pump was widely used in mines, electric power, metallurgy, coal, flue gas desulfurization industry, environment protection, etc. It could be used for transporting slurry containing suspended solids. Speaking from the working principle, slurry pump could be belonged to the centrifugal pump. In accordance with the inhalation of water, it could be divided into single suction pump and double suction pump. Impeller of the double suction slurry pump consisted of two single suction impeller with symmetric distribution. Water imported from both sides into the impeller, respectively. Therefore, the flow rate of the pump was two times of the single suction slurry pump. The traditional slurry pump mainly had used the water to design. Due to the greatly different physical properties of water and slurry when delivered, the traditional slurry exist problems of low efficiency and short service life, and etc. In order to solve the problem, this paper adopted computer aided design method to design double suction pump. With Fluent software, we had the three-dimensional numerical simulation analysis and the thorough discussion on the simulation results. Meanwhile, we also had analyzed the internal and external characteristics of slurry pump. Lastly, we optimized the double suction slurry pump.The main work of this paper was as follows:(1) Access to relevant literature to know the current using situation of slurry pump, the existing problems and the application of CFD technology in numerical simulation of slurry pump.(2) It could get the drawings of impeller and volute with the computer aided design method to design double suction slurry pump. Using of SolidWorks to carry on the three dimensional modeling, and the ANSYS ICEM software octree(robust) to generate tetrahedral unstructured grids.(3) With Fluent software, we had the three-dimensional numerical simulation analysis and showed the internal flow field pressure distribution and velocity distribution under the circumstances that the slurry pump double suction conveying media was water and solids, so as to the internal flow field of the solid concentration distribution. According to the simulation results of different flow of water, we predicted Q-H, Q-N and Q-? curves.(4) Through changing the blade outlet angle and the width of the impeller outlet, repeat the same work above. Then, we could find that the hump of Q-H curve was gone. The head curve was also more gentle and the width of the efficiency area was also bigger than before optimization.
