As we know, along with the growth of air traffic and the development of aircraft types in China, the pavement structure of some airport constructed in early year was damage seriously, which already cannot satisfy the using demand of the normal operation of the airport. For that reason, many airports utilized the overlay technology to prolong the service life of pavement, namely overlaying asphalt concrete on the used pavement to extend the life of pavement structure. Practices show that the combined state between asphalt layer and the used cement concrete road is relatively weak, however, the current composite pavement design standard based on layered elastic system assumes that the structure of pavement is completely continuous between each layer, which is not up to the actual working state and may ultimately affect the pavement performance forecast. This paper takes combined state as the research object, analyzing the reason of several early damage caused in composite pavement qualitatively, and summarizing the relationship between damage types and combined state; at the same time, establishing finite element model and validating with previous studies for determining a index suitable for reflecting the combined state of composite pavement; Then, analyzing the mechanical response of composite pavement with one, two or three overlays by mean of finite element simulation, which takes inter-layer combination coefficient, used cement contact load transfer capacity and temperature-load coupling into consideration; Finally, taking Shanghai Hongqiao airport runway as example, using several residual life forecast model, the domestic and foreign, to estimate the residual life of composite pavement, which can be used to analyze the inner link between forecast deviation and damage, and then we can put forward a suitable residual life forecast method for domestic composite pavement after measuring the applicability of each one.
