Aircrafts continuously have a lot of fuel consumption and give a variety of emission gases during their operations, which have a serious impact on the economy of the air transport and the environment in the local region, especially a significant impact in the terminal area of the airport. Therefore, to estimate accurately the fuel consumption and gas emissions of all types of aircrafts in terminal area will be very important to the air transport economy and airport environmental assessment. An energy consumption model is built in the terminal area based on the air traffic control data through the theoretical study of the performance of the aircraft and the energy consumption model can give an estimation of fuel consumption and gas emissions of various types of aircrafts in the terminal area. At the same time, the actual flight data is used to do a validation study, which can clearly approve the reliability and accuracy of this model.Firstly, the current international research methods related to this subject are compared. Then a general idea of fuel consumption and gas emissions model is proposed in the terminal area. What is more, some basic concepts and knowledge are introduced to have a necessary foundation of the coming research.Secondly, the real-time data model and the energy consumption model are built. The real-time model consists of the preparation of ATC data and the atmospheric data calculation, which will be treated as the data sources. The energy consumption model consists of three sub-models, which are used to calculate the fuel consumption and gas emissions in the terminal area. In addition, some necessary revisions are given in the real-time data model and the energy consumption model.Thirdly, the established model is simulated by Matlab to have an overview of the fuel flow and the gas flows. QAR data is also used to have a validation of the overall model, which can prove the reliability and accuracy of the model. In the end, thanks to the Java software, an interface tool is designed and it can calculatethe fuel consumption and gas emissions through the selection of the flight ID and aircraft type as well as input of the airport environment parameters.
