Bionic flapping-wing vehicles designed on the basis of the principle of bionics are new conceptual air vehicles imitating birds or insects flight. They not only have the advantages of fixed wing and rotary aircraft, but also have good invisibility and mobility. Flapping-wing vehicles have different aerodynamics and excellent ability to fly in low Reynolds number. So they have broad application prospects.The lift and thrust mechanism has analyzed based on the movement of birds and insects wings from the perspective of bionics. And the flight scaling rule of birds and insects is analyzed. The study provides theoretical basis for the research of bionic flapping-wing vehicle.Based on the comprehensive analysis of various common driving mechanism of bionic flapping-wing vehicles, a new bionic flapping-wing driving mechanism is proposed. UG solid modeling and kinematical simulating are performed to validate the feasibility of this mechanism. Moreover, the virtual prototype of this mechanism is established through ADAMS, then the structure dynamic simulation analysis and optimization design are applied to the prototype. The flapping-wing driving mechanism not only realize symmetric flutter,but also realize folding movement of the wing in the upstroke and downstroke phase. The mechanism is more conform to the requirements of the flapping-wing flight and make flight more stable, safe and efficient. These optimized results shorten the period of manufacturing of flapping wing mechanism, and can provide theoretical basis for the research and manufacture of flapping wing air vehicle.The aerodynamic force of bionic wing is very important in the design of bionic flapping-wing robot. Because the relevant aerodynamics is in its infant stage, there are no mature theory and experience for the study of aerodynamic force of bionic wing. The main structure parameters of bionic wing are calculated on the foundation of animal flight scaling rule. And the aerodynamic characteristics of bionic wing are numerical simulated using computational fluid dynamics software named Fluent. Influence on aerodynamic performance caused by flapping mode and environment can be analyzed by Fluent. The fold-flappingmodel of bionic wing is established and its aerodynamic characteristics is analyzed. The calculation results show that the fold-flapping model gets a great improvement in flying performances. All the conclusions have a certain guiding role in the research and manufacture of bionic flapping-wing vehicle.
