Flapping-wing micro-flying robot, also known as Flapping-wing micro air vehicle (Flapping- wing MAV), it implements flapping-wing flight by imitating the mechanism of bird and insect flight in the nature; it's the hotspot of recent study. The study of bionics and aerodynamics indicates that the MAV which the characteristic dimension almost equate to bird or insect, the flapping flight is precede to fixed and rotatory MAV and has broad prospective applications in the civil and military domain.The research background of Flapping-wing MAV was introduced, includes the concept, the technical standards and the considerable application prospects of the MAV .The miniature of research on flapping-wing MAV at home and abroad is described. Some key technical issues needed to be addressed in current and future studies are discussed.The geometric structural characteristics, the motion mechanism and the aerodynamics of the insect wing are analyzed, the geometry and kinematics'parameters during the insect flight and the unsteady state aerodynamic mechanisms of the flapping-wing flight are discussed specially, these provide a base for the design of the flapping-wing mechanism and the study of the wing.On base of all the above-mentioned, the motion program of the mechanism is analyzed, the flick and rotational movement during the flapping movement are respectively realized by crank-rocker mechanism and the cam mechanism, thereout a new type of flapping mechanism with two degree of freedom is worked out. The fundamental parameters of the mechanism are ascertained by analyzing the kinematics and scaling laws. The three dimensional model is drawed by UG. The results of the simulation show that the mechanism can well achieve the desired movement.The wings of the moth, cicada and bee are analyzed respectively by finite element method. The results indicate that bionic wings with properly designed shape and vein distribution can well satisfy the resonance excitation flapping-wing mechanism requirement on the mode shape of the wing. In the meanwhile, the frequency difference of the first and second-order modal is affected greatly by the location of the wing's max span.The flapping-wing mechanism including motor, reducer, flapping device and wing is developed. Then, experimental investigation is carried out. The experimental results of the movement demonstrate that the flapping-wing mechanism can realize the movements with two degrees of freedom, coincide with the simulation result. The experimental results of the study on mechanical efficiency and the chatter indicate that the whole flapping-wing mechanism can flap with high efficiency and small chatering; it's conductive to flapping flight.
