With the rapid development of modern industry, there are more and more heavy duty vehicles for transportation of heavy industrial equipment. It is necessary for these heavy duty vehicles to cross over the highway bridge during transportation. And the bridges bearing capacity need to be checked to guarantee the traffic safety. So it is required that the bridge detection and its safety evaluation should be prepared before the passage of vehicles. Load test is a feasible method for bridge detection. First of all, conduct a visual inspection and made a rough assessment. Next, establish the finite element model of the bridge structure, and the force situation of the bridge is acomplished through numerical computation. Then, conduct a field load test and contrast the result of field load test with the result of numerical computation as well as relevant specifications. At last, put forward a safety evaluation for the bridge.The static load test method was adopted in this paper and the reinforced concrete skew arch bridge was investigated, which was designed for the passage of heavy duty vehicle. With this method, we proposed a safety evaluation for the bridge under heavy load. The main work accomplished in this paper is summarized as follows:(1) Used Midas Civil to establish the beam gird model of skew arch bridge with the help of theoretical analysis and confirm the loading models, controlling sections and measuring-point arrangement. So we can obtain the internal force and deformation of the controlling sections under various models.(2) Measured the internal force and deformation of the controlling sections under various models in the field load test and contrasted the test result with the result of numerical computation as well as relevant specifications to verify the safety requirement of the bridge.(3) Combined the visual inspection and the result of static load test and put forward a safety evaluation to verify that whether the heavy duty vehicle is allowed for passage.
