Xining is a plateau continental semi-arid climate, with low pressure, cold long summer short, windy little rain, high evaporation, big temperature difference between day and night, sunshine time is long, the special geographical and climatic environment of this area has a significant effect on asphalt pavement structure performance. Therefore, how to ensure the beltway highway asphalt pavement have good performance, reduce and avoid serious disease in early stage, is the technical problems needed to be solved.This paper takes Xining expressway asphalt pavement project, According to special climate environment with high temperature in summer, winter cold and the temperature difference between day and night larger, complete combined optimization design of asphalt mixture material design and the structural design on the top layer of AC-13, makes the asphalt mixture has good structural performance and functional.According to the problem of asphalt selection with different layers in this beltway expressway, combined with commonly used types of asphalt in this area, the asphalt pavement typical disease and the cause analysis of the objective situation, according to China’s current specification and existing engineering experience, and the factors of raw materials and construction quality control level, the type of matrix asphalt binder is put forward. The functional effect of the modified asphalt was analyzed, and the preparation process, the type and the dosage of the modified asphalt were determined. According to the technical characteristics of mineral materials, a balanced optimization method for grading design of asphalt mixture is proposed. The highway project of asphalt pavement layers preferred mineral aggregate gradation and the optimum asphalt aggregate ratio target is recommended. Based on the engineering analysis and evaluation of the road performance of AC-13 asphalt mixture, the performance of the mixture is verified.
