Welding process design is the key link in the process of ship construction, the quality and efficiency of design directly affects the construction quality, manufacturing cost and shipbuilding cycle of shipbuilding enterprises. Therefore, high efficiency and high quality welding process design is very important for shipbuilding enterprises. Welding process design is a complex and multi factor design problem. At present, the traditional welding process is inefficient and difficult to share. According to the ship welding process design requirements, based on knowledge engineering, fuzzy reasoning and numerical simulation technology were used in this paper to establish a welding process planning system for welding process design and evaluation. The main research works are as follows:(1) The traditional welding process design method depended on the experience of designers, rework rate was high and design efficiency was low. The welding process of fuzzy rule mining algorithm was proposed, and the extraction and expression of expert experience and design fuzzy rules were realized. The knowledge base of the ship welding process planning system was established, which overcomes the limitation of the expert knowledge to express the complex problem.(2) The welding process design system for marine steel was designed based on the reasoning mechanism of the combination of case-based reasoning and rule-based reasoning. From the initial weld information input to the intelligent reasoning process of welding parameters output, the welding method selection, groove type design, welding material selection and parameters design of process reasoning design technology were realized.(3) Based on the dynamic process of welding numerical simulation technology, the influence of welding parameters on the temperature field and the stress and strain was obtained to guide the preparation of welding parameters. Based on the welding process of reasoning and the welding numerical simulation, by using the experiments, the distribution of stress and strain and deformation were analyzed to verify the correctness and the practicality of the reasoning process. And in order to provide reference for the tedious welding process assessment.(4) As the traditional welding process case aided planning system utilization was not high, and the fuzzy rule extraction accuracy was low, the ship welding process planning system was developed for welding resource management, welding process design and process evaluation. Through the example by the actual data of the enterprise, verified that the system completed the automatic design process from the initial information input to the welding process, and the computer aided design was realized based on the intelligent welding process design system.
