Nowadays, under the circumstance of high density urban development mode in Asia, vertical dimension becomes the main development direction to solving contradictions between architecture and natural environment. However, researches on vertical dimension of space are far from enough to satisfy the needs of contemporary city life. There still have a great quantity of conflicts between the development degree of vertical space and the public activities which tend to have a horizontal dimension. Therefore, we need to return to the essence of the problem of humanization, and to explore contemporary life demand and the way to stimulate space vitality from the perspective of human’s psychology as well as behavior. As the carrier of the urbanization, commercial complex is the typical representative of mixed development, connector of holistic development between urban and architecture, and also a new field of public life. The problem of humanization in vertical space is reflected in the commercial complex, clearly and crucially. Selecting commercial complex as the research object, this dissertation tries to find the inconsistencies between vertical development space and the specific public space activities, furthermore, to explore the humanized design method to solve the above problem.The article structure is divided into three parts:The first part pays attention to the discovery of problems from the perspective of historical development and present research of the commercial complexes’ situations in order to find out main contradiction on spatial vertical development and the people’s demand for space activities.The second part studies the predecessors for the humanized design, commercial space design and the vertical space design theory. This part elucidates several focus based on commercial complex vertical dimension space design strategy and demonstrate the feasibility of the method reference.The third part is the key of the full text. On the foundation of previous two parts of research, this part proposes four humanized design strategies such as function formats, traffic and continuous sight line organization, space compensation and scale control, moreover, tactics of specific space design methods in the design of commercial complex vertical dimension space.Finally, I hope this dissertation can give follow-up studies some enlightenments, help the architects to compensate for any thinking deficiencies in design of vertical space and be able to get rid of the shackles of pure form design, innovate design method from the perspective of humanization with more social significance.
