Flight scheduling is an important job in the program of production and scheduling.Flight scheduling will directly affect the civil aviation transportation in security and economy. Fleet assignment is the key to the flight scheduling, which is a complicated problem and involves many issues. A scientific scheme of fleet assignment has a great deal to airlines.This paper focuses on the optimization of fleet assignment problem,which is the key issue of the aircraft scheduling. Firstly, the airline network is discussed at beginning of the paper,as well as the process of flight scheduling, the content and the principles of aircraft schedule. The fleet assignment problem is focused in this part and a thorough study is carried out in it. The relationship between fleet assignment and programming of flight loops and the properties of fleet assignment was analyzed in the next, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of different ways of fleet assignment.Then, two different optimized models of fleeting assignment were established refer to the different ways based on the analysis of the constraints and impacts. An optimized model of fleet assignment based on flights, and another optimized model of fleet assignment based on flight loops which was established in two steps, filter model of flight loops and the optimization model of fleet assignment based on flight loops, were established respectively.An improved genetic algorithm is adopted to solve it after analyzing of the problem and the model, and computer programming is used to implement an intelligent simulation.Finally, the actual operating data of airline is adopted to analyze the simulation results of different ways and models of fleet assignment. The validity of models and algorithms proposed in the paper is verified. The results shows that the way of fleet assignment based on flight loops has a better performance in the process of fleet assignment. The models and algorithms proposed in the paper are practicable and feasible, which could provide some support to policy makers of airlines.
