Air transportation is such a complex system that flight schedule can be disturbed by any uncertainties.Due to the mutual influences of all the flights in the aviation network,irregular flights without prompt dispositions always lead to large-scale flight delay.This not only affect the flying experience of passengers,but also make the airlines suffer variety of losses,including tarnished public image and passenger lost.Irregular flights have always been a major problem for all airlines.Presently,when irregular flights occur,the rescheduling of flights depend mainly on flight dispatcher,which takes a long time.Domestic research on large-scale flight delay is still in an early stage and efficient irregular flight recovery system has not been developed.Therefore,the research priority of large-scale flight delay recovery problem should give to irregular flight recovery.The aim of this study is to describe the irregular flight recovery issue in mathematics language and solve the mentioned problem.In this paper,the actual operating performance of Chinese airlines are summarized and the causes of irregular flight are analyzed.Meanwhile,the procedure of formulating flight schedule is introduced and the complexity of fleet assignment are discussed.This paper also offers the overview of irregular flight recovery process together with its difficulties in modeling.Secondly,an improved resource assignment model is constructed in order to analyze the necessity of robustness in flight scheduling.Then,a flight connection matrix premised upon the minimum recovery cost algorithm is designed to generate feasible routes for each aircraft.Thus,the flight label set get optimized on the base of the previous path set.Next,the basic genetic algorithm is improved by building a penalty function to assign feasible path space for flights that are awaiting to resume.Finally,using the actual operating data from XIAMEN AIR,the effectivity of the recovery method has been verified.The recovery method designed in this paper can minimize the recovery cost and meet the demand of airlines for quick solutions of irregular flight recovery.It also provides airlines with theoretical basis and a method for reference to resume flight schedule.
