Research On The Protection And Restoration Of The Badly Damaged Ancient Buildings

Nowadays,the studies of the protection of the badly damaged ancient relics and buildings as well as the restoration of the ruins have been mature home and abroad,but they tend to focus on monuments that is nation-level and in large scale or on the restoration of the official building, then studies of the methods to repair the valuable civil damaged ancient relics and buildings which are scattered in the vast rural areas are weaker. Ao Ancestral hall is now Hubei provincial-level cultural relic protection units, of which facades are beautifully decorated, and it pattern—multiple entrances seldom courtyards is clearly visible, which is the left one of the few ancestral temple that is in high specifications of the northwestern of Hubei, and very valuable in both architectural and historical ways. But now the main building was damaged seriously, the Hubei provincial cultural heritage bureau had mentioned a number of requirements.Thus, this study took the Ao Ancestral hall as the study object to look into ways to protect and restore.Firstly, through combing of the idea of architectural conservation and restoration home and abroad with characteristics of most damage ancient relics and construction, we summed up the main principles to be followed which laid the foundation of protection and restoration repair for Ao Ancestral hall. Then analysised the geography, history, the Ao family structure, clan system, history of Ao Ancestral hall. According to the exploration of the architectural status quo, we assesed the comprehensive value of Ao Ancestral hall, and provided clues, foundations to the restoration of Ao Ancestral hall afterwards. Furthermore, according to the method of further inference of the status quo, analysis of relevant historical documents,comparison of its own buildings longitudinally as well as the comparison of similar ancestral, we recovered the space, damaged buildings, yard space,decorative materials and other parts of Ao Ancestral hall. Ultimately we will achieve the overall protection and restoration design of Ao Ancestral hall.These processes and conclusion which related to the study of the history humanities background, damaged status, and inferred recovery of the damaged part of Ao Ancestral hall will provide method and basis of protection and recovery for seriously damaged family halls and other damaged civil ancient building in northwestern of Hubei.Also this type will plays a supplementary role and have reference value and social significance.
