Research On Applications Of Regional Ethnic Elements To Campus Landscape

This essay aims to analyze the application to regional elements in campus landscape, taking the designs of Zhenning National Normal School in Anshun as an example. The regional national elements of Zhenning county are mainly consist of Buyi and Miao elements for the simple reason that Zhenning County is self-governed by those two nations. This kind of landscape is called the rural minority landscape in landscape design. 'Rural minority landscape is a kind of scenery which reflects a nation's natural environment and national characteristics, all of them are naturally grown when people gathered together at one place for a long time for the sake of living.'Nowadays, the importance of national culture has been valued higher and higher, and a concept goes as 'Once national, thus international'is very popular. Generally, national elements are consciously put into some designs while there also exists some problems. As a nation with five-thousand-year-long history in vast territory, Chinese nation has rich cultural elements. Different nations raise different contents of culture, and it is the diversities that fulfill the Chinese national culture. A good design should contain the local national cultural elements for the sake of meeting the principal of adjusting measures to local conditions and show the peculiarity of local national culture. In order to enhance the understanding of the concept above, author came to Zhenning County to do some research and survey about how to combine the rural cultural elements and modern designs. At first place, huge amount of materials and data were used for better understanding of regional culture of Zhenning County, afterwards, local environment of humanities were put together to explore and summarize national specialties of those two minorities. One notion penetrates the whole case, and that is, combing the ethnic elements with the campus landscape on the basis of meeting the need of design function. All of the elements are shown through the planar configuration, construction decoration, mat formation and featured landscape of the project. Stuffs of Buyi strongly indicate the tribal consciousness of its patriarchal clan. For instance, in order to show the relationship of main clan and other sub-clans, the batik printing on the arm of Buyi uniforms has the particular pattern, that is, one main spiracle is surrounded by six small ones, and the ancient Miao used the implication of textures to indicate its culture. There are two conceptions in designation, one is called meaning, which refers to the implication of design, another is form, emphasizing the pattern of a stuff. At last, author made summaries about the application to regional elements in modern landscape of the whole project via profound exploration and careful design.
