In recent years, the idea of intelligent household appears and becomes popular owing to the development of science and technology, the rising of internet, and the improvement of people's recognition towards the concept of residence. By connecting household products to the internet, it is convenient for users to control all the products. Most of the intelligent household systems utilize APPs on smart phones for terminate control. In these APPs, the graphical user interfaces(GUIs) are the most immediate interface with the user and must be well designed to make the APP more human. In this thesis, a GUI design methodology was proposed based on the characteristics of information visualization and GUI's functional requirements. The feasibility of the presented method was tested and it was applied in specific design practice. The contents of the thesis consist of the following four parts:In the first part, the theoretical foundation of information visualization was introduced. The design principle was analyzed from the aspects of design characteristics. At the same time, six specific presentation ways of information visualization were reviewed. This part of discussion contributes to constructing the design method in the latter part.In the second part, the basic idea and design criteria of the GUI in intelligent household's APP were overviewed. Through this overview, the main design tasks were clarified and the concrete design method were proposed pointedly.In the third part, the design method by applying the concept of information visualization in the GUI of intelligent household APP was brought up. The method included four parts, which were reasonable visual interface framework, emphasis on interface color collocation, exploring the interaction forms between users and interfaces, and grasping the user's emotional factors, respectively. The feasibility of this method was confirmed by questionnaire investigation. The results showed that the GUI designed by this method could meet users' demands, which meant that the design method is feasible.In the fourth part, the GUI design of smart router was practiced by the presented design method. Based on deeply investigating users' demands, the characteristics of function and GUI for various commercial smart routers in market were analyzed and compared with each other. Based on a real project, the GUI design method of Xiaomi smart router v2.0 was practiced. The design result was tested and estimated. Suggestions were made according to the testing results. Finally, the whole work in the thesis was summarized and conclusions were drawn.
