The idea of “Industry 4.0” has started a new round of industrial revolution across the world. Intelligent manufacturing has become an inevitable trend for the manufacturing industry. The M-IoT(Manufacturing Internet of Things) which is a combination of the IoT and manufacturing technologies is the technical foundation for the intelligent manufacturing. As the physical layer, the manufacturing workshop is a blind spot for enterprises, restricting their development. To address the black-box problem in the discrete manufacturing process, we carried out a research on the real-time monitoring system to enable the visual monitoring of discrete manufacturing workshops based on the M-IoT technology, which will help to improve the management of the workshop. The main research work is as follows:Firstly, based on the characteristics and problems of discrete manufacturing, the research analyzes the requirements of real-time monitoring and introduces the system framework, physical topology and function modules. Besides, this paper expounds the discrete manufacturing process operation mode based on the IoT.Secondly, the research introduces the data acquisition method and data characteristics of the discrete manufacturing process. On this basis, a new spatio-temporal data model is described in details, including the model design idea and composition. The data processing method is also studied.Thirdly, according to the characteristics of discrete manufacturing process, the research analyzes the original, simple and complex events and puts forward the event expression method based on XML. The research describes the event processing and event detection methods based on the improved Petri net, enabling the monitoring of manufacturing disturbance events. Finally, the research develops a prototype system, including the deployment of workshops, system design principle, database design and function demonstration and proves the feasibility and validity of the system.
