With the boom of the Chinese urbanization process, the construction field in China has changed greatly in the past ten years. Once regarded as a pioneer, non-linear design has been constantly applied in practice and this kind of landmark building is no longer rare. At the same time, non-linear design no longer exclusively belongs to some foreign avant-garde architects, more and more Chinese architects are causing a sensation in this field. In the process of continuous practice and exploration, the research on nonlinear architecture has entered a new stage. There are numerous frontier areas around the topic of non-linear architecture, for example, non-linear theory, Deleuze's philosophy, parameterization, digital technology, algorithmic generation, and so on. It can be discussed from a lot of perspectives. This thesis starts from the non-linear science, whose appearance has brought us a new world view and methodology to develop. With the wave of technological innovation, non-linear architecture has been widely studied in the world. It breaks many rules of conventional buildings and shows a lot of new features. For instance, external reflects the characteristics of dynamic, uncertainty and self-similarity, while interior space shows a rich perceptual experience and new liquidity. At the same time, it forms a new relationship with the environment and becomes the symbol of the city. After nearly ten years of urbanization in China, has appeared a large number of non-linear buildings, which are quietly changing the face of Chinese cities.Next, this thesis explores the overall strategy of non-linear architectural design from the view of architects. And it also puts forward two different modes: “post-rationalised” and “pre-rationalised”, which are based on the role of computer in the generation process. In the early stage, the former emphasizes the initiative of designers, and the latter emphasizes the algorithmic generation. And combined with some cases, this paper explains the main points and process of these two strategies in detail. Then there is a brief analysis about their advantages, disadvantages, application situation and development direction. Finally, based on personal ability, the author further demonstrates the application of the “post-rationalised” strategy in practice. In view of the fact that the study of non-linear architecture is still on the way, it is excusable to be questioned by various aspects. As practitioners, we should see its breakthrough and worth of advocating, such as the innovation of form, space and the design method. In addition, we also should realize its conflict with reality, such as high cost and the discordance with the environment. Through the continuous exploration, architects should improve their own ability and maintain the sustainable innovation. Whether or not it can raise a wave just like the Modernism is not important. Non-linear architecture has opened the reform of the construction sector. To constantly pursue the multiple attributes of architecture is the value of this times.
